SMRITI SATATAI
Synopsis: Smriti Satatai (Memory Forever) is a study on mental health in a migrant family based in multicultural Melbourne. based on an evening in the life of a Bengali couple, Mala & Sujan, living in Australia. Mala’s father has Alzheimer’s, and they are here at her father’s place looking after him. The movie is a poignant study of the family dynamics when the silent killer Dementia wreaks havoc in a migrant Bengali family in Melbourne. It displays intense emotions with subtlety and empathy, where the focus shifts from the father to his daughter Mala & finally her husband Sujan, with a terrible realisation of that which is about to come. It finishes with Dementia Australia data on what is a second largest Dementia is the second leading cause of death of Australians & the leading cause of death for women. Based on a theme of hope & revival it finishes with a call for early diagnosis. Preparing for and shooting the film in stressful times and the postproduction afterwards took a significant toll on the cast & crew and there were significant technical gaps.
This was later worked on and partially rectified through extensive Post Production work by the Creative Movies team..
